About

Thomas Holtvedt

Hi, I'm Thomas Holtvedt. I'm a Manager at KPMG, a technologist, and a builder.

At KPMG I work as a business consultant within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance. My job is to help organizations optimize complex finance operations and shape them into systems they can actually rely on: clean architectures, auditable processes, and teams that trust the numbers. It's demanding work, and it's where I've sharpened the instincts I bring to everything else I do.

Outside the day job, I build. I'm the co-founder of Datafunn, where we help organizations make better use of their data. I'm also the creator of OpenGS (Open Grand Strategy) and its companion OpenGS Map Tool, an open-source take on building deep strategy games in public. On top of that, I'm a partnered YouTuber under the Good Solution Interactive brand, where I post about coding and game development.

I'm a tech and AI enthusiast, and I believe the best way to understand something is to build with it. I'm also an avid reader and a lifelong learner who keeps a wide set of interests on purpose. This site is where I'll publish projects, post updates, and share my thinking on tech, AI, programming, business, and whatever else has my attention that week.

Underneath all of it, I'm a husband and a dog owner. The long hours I put into consulting, code, and content only work because of who I come home to.

Projects

Datafunn

Co-founder. Data company.

A company I co-founded. Public data is for everyone, but at Datafunn we make it easy to actually understand. We were finalists at Alna Gründerhub in December 2024.

Panel, our latest product, gives you industry-leading visualization and analysis, built to deliver insight without complexity. Eiendom, our dashboard for the Norwegian housing market, runs on the same foundation.

Panel

A product by Datafunn. Configurable dashboards.

I built Panel full-stack. The pipeline handles automated data ingestion and normalization, and feeds a dynamic front-end that turns the result into visualizations. The main feature is a user-configurable dashboard: people shape their own views around the specific questions they need to answer.

Whether you work in policy, investment, planning, or you're just curious, Panel lets you see the patterns, trends, and opportunities straight from the source.

OpenGS

Open-source Grand Strategy framework. Godot.

An open-source framework for building Grand Strategy Games in the Godot engine. I founded the project and maintain it, along with the roadmap and documentation that ties it to the companion Map Tool. The work focuses on the technical and data-handling problems specific to the genre: economy, diplomacy, and province-based logic. Built in GDScript and C#.

OpenGS Map Tool

Companion to OpenGS. World-builder utility.

A Python utility that automates game-world creation for OpenGS. It takes visual cartographic data and converts it into the structured game definitions (JSON/CSV) that OpenGS can consume.

Undisclosed Project

Grand strategy game. Built on the OpenGS stack.

A grand strategy game in early development, built on top of the OpenGS technology stack. The work is being carried out by an international team of enthusiasts. More details will be shared as the project matures.

Blog

Coming soon. The blog launches with the next version of this site, where I'll publish notes on consulting, coding, AI, and whatever else has my attention that week.
